Introduction

The neotropical satyrine genus Amphidecta has been a taxonomic enigma. Miller (1968) placed the genus in Pronophilina, but Lamas (2004) removed it, placing it as incertae sedis at the end of Satyrinae. Freitas (2004) described the larva of A. reynoldsi, and suggested that it is similar to larvae of the pronophiline Eteona.

Most recently, Peña et al. (2010) have shown that it belongs in Euptychiina, although its immediate sister taxon is not clear.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
