Containing group: Daedalma

A rather rare and unusual Daedalma species, known only from male specimens. The species occurs in cloud forest on the eastern slope of the Andes in central Peru.

Superficially similar to males of D. eliza, but with male genitalia so distinct as to suggest that this species is sister to the remainder of the genus.

Pyrcz, T.W., Greeney, H.F., Willmott, K.R., Wojtusiak, J. 2011. A taxonomic revision of the genus Daedalma Hewitson with the descriptions of twenty new taxa and the immature stages of two species (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae: Satyrinae). Zootaxa 2898: 1-68.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
