Containing group: Josia

Introduction

A member of the aurifusa species group, restricted to Venezuela, where it is apparently quite common, with one record (for the type of the now synonymized J. glycera Druce) from Colombia. Larvae have been reared on Passiflora capsularis and P. rubra (Miller, 2009).

Characteristics

Miller and Otero (1994) restricted the circumscription of J. aurifusa to include only specimens with a moderately wide radial orange stripe on the forewing, hindwings with a relatively large black, triangular mark on the posterior margin near the anal fold, and a completely black mesoscutum. Specimens with more extensive orange markings are referred to J. turgida.

This page is a Tree of Life Leaf Page.

Each ToL leaf page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a leaf at the tip of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a leaf and a branch of the Tree of Life is that a leaf cannot generally be further subdivided into subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
