Myrmoteras
Characteristics
Myrmoteras has the following apomorphies (Bolton 2003):- Eyes enormous
- Linear and extremely elongate mandibles, with 8-16 teeth; trap-jaws, capable of opening to 270 degrees
- Frontal carinae absent, antennal sockets bounded only by toruli
- Vertical posterior surface of head with a transverse groove and thick cuticular collar above the occiput
