Characteristics

Monophyly of Spurostigma is supported by the absence of the premolar cusp on the right mandible, presence of a spurvein arising at the apex of pterostigma, the length of pterostigma three times its width, the triangular shape of the pterostigma, and, in females, the base of the ventral valve joined to clunium by a membranous segment, and the length of female epiproct approximately half the width of its base (Casasola Gonzalez 2006).
