1187 Ctenolucius hujeta head
Scientific Name Ctenolucius hujeta
Location Maracaibo basin (Venezuela)
Comments Membranes of the lips are clearly extended posteriorly, preceded by a thickened margin of skin. In this way, fish adapted to poor oxygen concentration in the water, a typical condition in flood plain enironments, may "skim" the upper layer of the water for oxygenation. The fish was being held in a bucket of water.
