Introduction

This is an Amazonian species, ranging from eastern Colombia to central Brazil.  Constantino and Salazar (2010) report records of larvae feeding on Passiflora coccinea, P. faroana, P. hexagonocarpa, P. mansoi and P. phaeocaula.

Characteristics

Similar to the allopatric P. wernickei, but the ventral hindwing postmedial band is mostly brown, with a reduced white medial band.

Philaethria pygmalion pygmalion (Fruhstorfer, 1912) - southern Colombia and Venezuela to central Brazil.
