Two groups recognized on basis of thickness of embolus: Maevia s.s. (inclemens, intermedia, expansa, and several undescribed species) and (subgenus or genus) Paramaevia (hobbsae, michelsoni, poultoni).

IdentificationThe legs are long and thin. Males of at least subgenus Maevia have long hairs on third leg.
