Euastacus urospinosus Riek 1956

Keith A. Crandall
Containing group: Euastacus

Types

Holotype, Australian Museum, Sydney, P12886 (Male).

Type Locality

Queensland, Obi Obi Creek, Maleny.

Distribution and Habitat

The species is known only from tributaries of Obi Obi Creek (Mary River) between Maleny and Mapleton, west of Nambour, in rainforest at altitudes above 240 m. Little highland rainforest remains uncleared in the area, though pockets persist in national parks and state forests. Vegetation at the type locality has been cleared for pasture as it was in 1953 when the juvenile holotype was collected (Riek, 1956). This specimen was probably washed downstream from upstream rainforest.

This page is a Tree of Life Leaf Page.

Each ToL leaf page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a leaf at the tip of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a leaf and a branch of the Tree of Life is that a leaf cannot generally be further subdivided into subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
